Meet Our 2025 Fall Drive Lawn Sign Winner Paige Bird.

Every fall, BCE invites students across Burlingame to enter our lawn sign design contest. Donors proudly display the winning sign in their yards during the Fall Drive as a symbol of support for our schools. This year marked the third annual contest, and once again, the entries amazed us with their color, creativity, and school spirit!
When the judges selected the winning artwork, though, we ran into an unusual twist: there was no name attached to the submission! BCE got the message out to our community asking for help solving our mystery. Curiosity was high, and soon we heard from the artist’s mom. We’re thrilled to introduce the talented young designer behind this year’s lawn sign, none other than fourth grader Paige Bird of Lincoln Elementary School!
The judges selected Paige’s artwork because it beautifully captures the heart of BCE’s mission. Her design features vibrant representations of BSD programs that BCE has funded for many years, including world languages, music, and PE. The bold, bright colors immediately stand out, and we loved how her sign proudly includes every Burlingame school, making it a celebration of our entire community.

Paige is no stranger to the lawn sign contest. She submitted a detailed entry last year featuring every school mascot. This year, she went for a simpler, bolder design that celebrates education and community. She created a pencil stencil to keep her drawing clean and consistent, added a vibrant background on her dad’s suggestion, and with her mom’s help researched the different ways of saying hello to represent world languages and our diverse Burlingame community. Her brother Matthew, a big sports fan, even inspired the sports balls that appear on the sign to represent our schools’ dedicated PE teachers. BCE funds credentialed PE teachers in every elementary school, as well as for the sixth grade at BIS.

Art has been a passion for Paige since she was three, when she began taking classes at “Follow Your Art” in her hometown of Melrose, Massachusetts. Today, she still loves making art as a hobby, especially 3D projects and miniature creations. “She’s always been drawn to creative work,” said her mom, Molly Flexman. “She especially loves making tiny houses and crafts with her glue gun.”
For Paige, seeing her design chosen as the winner has been a thrill. “It’s cool to see my art all over the city!” she said.
BCE is grateful to Paige and to every student who submitted their work this year. Their creativity reflects the joy and pride our community feels for Burlingame public schools. When you see this year’s lawn sign around town, know it was designed by one of our own students as a symbol that together, we’re building a brighter future for all of our kids.
