Paige Hsieh, a fifth grader at Lincoln Elementary, drew the winning design of our second annual student art contest.
We are excited to unveil our BCE Fall Drive Lawn Sign for 2024, created by Paige Hsieh, a fifth grader at Lincoln Elementary School! Paige submitted her drawing during our second annual lawn sign art contest last May, and was the stand out among six strong finalists. The selection committee loved the uniqueness and detail of the design, as well as its nod to Burlingame’s history as the “City of Trees.”
Paige’s mom, Tina Huang, told us that Paige brings her sketchbook everywhere. “Paige has always expressed herself through colors and shapes. She’s been loving arts and crafts of all kinds since she was little. Watching her passion for art grow over the years has been truly inspiring.” She added that as supporters of BCE, “winning the lawn sign contest is such a proud moment for our family, and it’s a beautiful reminder that her creativity knows no bounds.”
The young artist herself told us, “I decided to enter the contest because I believed that my art would be able to inspire more young kids if I won. After being selected I felt overjoyed because I knew that many incredible and talented people worked hard on this, too.” When Paige found out her lawn sign was the winner, she added, “Knowing that my art was chosen, made me feel, well just good in general!”
We are so proud of Paige and all of our Burlingame students who submitted artwork for the contest! We will be sharing some honorable mention winners on social media throughout the Fall Campaign.
BCE Fall Drive Lawn Signs should begin to appear across Burlingame before the end of the month. To get yours, make a donation of any amount to the Fall Drive or sign up for monthly giving before October 31 (or while supplies last!). Our fundraising goal is to raise as many flexible dollars as possible for our students. After our fiscal year closes on June 30, BCE then presents these funds to the Burlingame School District in the form of a grant which becomes part of the upcoming school budget to support all TK-eighth grade students in the school district. This means that every July 1, our annual campaign begins again at zero. Our children deserve the best possible education we can give them, so the BCE campaign relies on families to give generously year after year.
