We are thrilled to welcome Healthy Horizons to our growing Business Partners community and share more about their meaningful impact in the Burlingame community and beyond.

Supporting new mothers and families in Burlingame

Founded in 1991 by Sheila Dukas-Janakos, MPH, IBCLC, LE, RLC, Healthy Horizons was created with a clear mission: to support new mothers and families throughout their breastfeeding journey. A beloved Burlingame community destination for more than 35 years, the store is easy to spot with its signature bright purple awning on Burlingame Avenue. Since Cassi Janakos and Maggie Janakos joined the team in 2015, Healthy Horizons has continued to grow, expanding beyond retail to provide workplace lactation services. Today, the team supports families in person at companies across 135 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada.

What do you love the most about Burlingame?

What we love most about Burlingame is its family-friendly environment and welcoming small-town feel. It’s a special place where kids still ride their bikes down the street, neighbors know one another, and small businesses truly thrive. We feel incredibly fortunate to work with families from the excitement of welcoming their first baby to reconnecting with them as their families grow over the years. Running into past patients on Burlingame Avenue or Broadway is one of the many joys of being part of this close-knit community.

Why do you support BCE?

Investing in our children is non-negotiable. When kids and families thrive, our entire community thrives. Supporting BCE and joining its Business Partner Program was a natural choice, and we are honored to be part of both BCE and the Burlingame community.

We believe in being the change we want to see. As a business dedicated to supporting new parents through our Breastfeeding Centers and Workplace Lactation Programs, we are proud to sponsor BCE and invest in the next generation of our Burlingame community. Sheila Dukas-Janakos, Founder of Healthy Horizons.

What message would you like to send to our Burlingame students?

"Be the change you want to see in your community and in the world". When Sheila Dukas-Janakos founded Healthy Horizons, there were no laws protecting the right to breastfeed in public or access workplace lactation support, and very little support for breastfeeding overall. She recognized this gap and chose to be part of the solution, helping create the positive change that now supports millions of families across North America. That commitment to impact, both locally and nationally, has earned Healthy Horizons recognition as one of the Top 100 Small Businesses in America by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and as one of Inc. Magazine’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies for three consecutive years.

Tell us more about Healthy Horizons

Our Breastfeeding Centers in Burlingame and Menlo Park are here to support young mothers and families every step of the way, offering breast pump rentals, lactation consultations, baby outfits, maternity wear, and specialty breastfeeding products. Stop by and say “Hi”, we’d love to see you!

Beyond supporting families directly, we also partner with employers across the country to design, upgrade, and manage workplace lactation rooms, run breast milk shipping programs, and provide new parent education. We work with school districts, tech companies, startups, financial institutions, government agencies, and organizations of all kinds, and we would love to help your workplace better support new parents.
