Grab a First Day of School Board, fill in the fun facts, and help us celebrate the start of another great year in Burlingame schools.

There’s something special about the first day of school. Our kiddos celebrate the day with new backpacks, fresh school supplies, and plenty of excitement about the year ahead. Before the first bell rings, there’s one more tradition not to miss… the first-day photo!

This year, BCE’s New Families team created a fun First Day of School Board to help Burlingame parents capture the moment. Each child can fill in fun facts about themselves, then hold up their completed board for that very special back-to-school picture. Some BCE volunteers have passed out printed copies at elementary school summer playdates, but if you were unable attend you can download these PDFs and print your own!

Ahren Shah, who will be starting third grade at McKinley Elementary, said the best part is filling out the board and showing everyone what makes him unique. “I like that you get to write down your favorite things and then see what everyone else put on theirs,” says Ahren. “I want to see what my friends write!”

Just like Ahren, we want to see your pics of the first day back! Once your child has filled out their board, snap a picture and share it on Instagram. Tag @BCEFoundation and #BCEFirstDay so we can celebrate the first day with you!

BONUS: The fun doesn’t have to end after the first-day photo. BCE’s First Day of School Board has a Last Day of School side, too! Tuck it away until the end of the school year, then have your child fill it out again and see how much can change in a year. It’s a fun way to capture another snapshot of who they are and create a before-and-after keepsake you’ll treasure.

Starting the Year with a lot to Celebrate

This is an especially exciting school year for the Burlingame community. BCE is commemorating its 45th anniversary, marking 45 years of neighbors coming together to support Burlingame public schools. That community support made possible BCE’s largest grant ever, of $3.21 million, to the Burlingame School District for the 2026-27 school year.

“There's always something exciting about the first day of school, but this year feels especially meaningful,” says BCE Co-President Pooja Shah. “We’re welcoming new families, celebrating 45 years of BCE, and kicking off another year of coming together to support our schools. It’s wonderful to see families already getting involved and supporting the Fall Drive.”

Print your board, grab a pencil, and get ready for that first-day photo. Whether your child is starting TK, heading into elementary school, or beginning another exciting year in Burlingame, it’s a moment worth celebrating. Download your First Day of School Board, fill it out, take a photo, and tag @BCEFoundation and and #BCEFirstDay. We can’t wait to see Burlingame’s first day of school through your eyes!
