Meet
Aiko Yamakawa
Secretary
Aiko is a Central Valley native, originally from Turlock, where she grew up on her family's almond farm. She attended the same elementary, middle, and high schools as both her mom and grandfather! Aiko went on to attend UC San Diego and UC Davis School of Law. She and her husband, Dev, lived in San Diego for a number of years and then moved to Burlingame to be closer to family.
Aiko is currently an attorney, working in-house for a water utility. Prior to that, she worked for a law firm representing various public agencies and nonprofits. She is also a member of the board of directors for Cal Asian Chamber of Commerce.
Aiko is mom to twin boys, Jay and Reed, who are fourth graders at Franklin. She told us, "I have chosen to serve on the BCE board because I support the strong education system in Burlingame, and want to see it continue to thrive."
When she's not working or volunteering, Aiko loves hiking in the redwoods, watching her boys play on the beach, and spending a snowy weekend in Lake Tahoe.
