Meet
Sharyl Wong
McKinley Site Director
As a San Francisco native, Sharyl Wong has been enjoying the Bay Area her entire life. For Sharyl and her husband Andy, choosing Burlingame as the place to settle and raise their kids was an easy decision. “We were drawn to Burlingame by the pleasant weather, beautiful trees, the small-town feel, and the great schools,” she said.
A product of the San Francisco public school system and a graduate of UC Berkeley, Sharyl was surprised at the challenges that the Burlingame public schools face. “I was surprised to learn how underfunded our schools are and that we need to raise funds annually in order to provide the enriched education that our students deserve,” she said. “I was compelled to join BCE to help ensure that our students can continue to receive a well-rounded education year after year. I am honored to be part of this special team.”
In addition to joining the BCE Board as the McKinley Site Director, Sharyl enjoys helping with her kids’ sports teams, volunteers as-needed for McKinley, and has been BCE’s volunteer photographer.
The busy working mom of two kids in the spanish-immersion program at McKinley (Eli, a 4th grader and Amelie, a 2nd grader) spends her days advancing medicines in the pharmaceutical industry.
In her free time, Sharyl enjoys jogging, photography, baking, supporting environmental causes, exploring new places, and getting together with her large extended family. Fun fact: Sharyl was once an acrobat for the SF Opera. If that’s not a conversation starter, we don’t know what is!
Be sure to say hello to Sharyl when you see her on campus!
