Dinner Dance and Auction to Support Burlingame Schools
Community Participation More Important Than Ever

Burlingame, CA – FEBRUARY 6, 2008 – The Burlingame Community for Education Foundation (BCE) announced that the 2008 Dinner Dance and Auction will be held Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the San Francisco Airport Hyatt Regency Hotel. The event is co-sponsored by the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce. All proceeds from this year's event, "An Evening of Black & White," go to BCE.

The money raised by BCE is granted to the Burlingame School District to provide credentialed Music, Physical Education and Library specialists. BCE also funds one-time projects, such as Technology, Library, and Media Centers. BCE raised $675,000 in 2007, amounting to $284 in funding per student in the 2007/2008 school year.

Christine Seeley, BCE President, says, "If the governor's budget passes, the Burlingame School District could lose $1 million in funding for the 2008/09 school year. That's $415 less per student in 2008/09. Even if the governor negotiates lower cuts to public education, we still need to work very hard to raise enough money to maintain the programs we have now.

"BCE is appealing to the Burlingame community to join us for a fun night on March 8. The event is more than a fundraiser–it strengthens our community and connects local businesses, city officials, BSD staff, and parents in support of our children and schools. It is the strength of the community that we build for ourselves that will help us through whatever budget cuts come."

BCE also announced that an online auction will feature packages and items generously donated by our community and local businesses. Items are available for bidding and purchase from February 18 to March 5, 2008 at http://www.bcefoundation.org.

Tickets for An Evening of Black & White are available online at http://www.bcefoundation.org or by emailing .
