Christine Thorsteinson Presented with Distinguished Service Award

Every year, BCE gives a Distinguished Service award to an exiting Burlingame School District parent or family who has made significant and impactful contributions through BCE and other related volunteer roles during their time in the district.

This year, we are pleased to honor Christine Thorsteinson with the Distinguished Service award.  Her name was added to a plaque that hangs in the Board Room in the BSD district office.

BCE President Angela Dubovsky presents Christine Thorsteinson with the BCE Distinguished Service Award.

Christine has served our schools in many ways during her years in this district. She has been on the executive board of three PTAs (Lincoln, McKinley and BIS), and has served many roles for those PTAs including President and Secretary. She has also served on the dual immersion task force, and has worked on fundraising for the walk-a-thon and Harvest Festival.

In addition to PTA, she has been instrumental in helping pass local tax measures to support our schools, including Measure B and Measure E.

All of that doesn’t even include what she has done for BCE directly! She has served on the BCE board as VP Outreach, McKinley Site Director and as President. Christine’s work on the Game On campaign back in 2011 was instrumental in bringing PTAs and BCE together to support our schools with much needed funds when the state made some of the most dramatic and deep funding cuts in recent history.

Many of our community leaders recognize her impact. Here are just a few quotes:

“Christine is an inclusive leader who inspires and listens to those around her – she brings out the best in people.”

“She is fun to work with and I count her among my friends.”

“BSD has been so lucky to have benefited from all the she has to give.”

In addition to her extensive volunteer work, Christine and her family are always helping out. They hosted an Amity intern for a full year and were very involved as a family in the first year of the Spanish immersion program – and now as a member of the first immersion graduating class.

She is also very skilled with a sewing machine and has made many costumes for BIS productions. She likes to cook and bake and share some beloved Canadian dishes with friends.

Christine, thank you for all you have done for our district, our schools and our kids!

Thank You to Outgoing Board Members

We’d like to thank the outgoing board members who have finished their terms on the BCE board for their service, especially Jen Liebhaber, who has served on the BCE board for the past five years. These hard working board members have made significant contributions of their time, talent and personal resources to BCE, and have helped make Burlingame public schools better for our community. Even though they are stepping down from the BCE board, many of them will continue to to support BCE teams in the upcoming school year.

BCE Distinguished Service Award event

BCE celebrated our record-breaking annual campaign. We recognized outstanding volunteers, thanked outgoing members of our BCE Board of Directors, and presented the first annual BCE Foundation Distinguished Service Award to outgoing BSD families, Jenifer and Brian Beswick, and Donna and Eric Colson. Nearly one hundred BCE supporters and volunteers attended, including Superintendent Maggie MacIsaac, Trustees Greg Land, Davina Drabkin, and Kay Coskey, plus Mayor Michael Brownrigg.
